Designed for the Ironbridge Gorge Museum by Jonathan Harris, who is widely renowned as one of Britain’s most talented contemporary glass designers. Jonathan combines innovation and technology with ancient craftsmanship to create his acclaimed glass pieces.
This exquisite design, using the cased gräal technique was inspired by the Coalport China collections, and echoes the colours and floral patterns which are typical of many of the items produced from 1795 when John Rose first set up a factory at Coalport.
Each piece is unique and the design is hand carved by Jonathan Harris through layers of enamel glass colour and pure sterling silver leaf. The carving process takes several hours to complete, after which the piece is returned to the ‘hot shop’ where it is reheated and the surface is cased in clear glass, encapsulating the design. Several complicated processes are involved in the production of this piece, each requiring a very high level of skill with stunning results. Each item comes signed by the artist and in an attractive presentation box. Glass and sterling silver
